The original bellydance costumes may seem like they are similar in every country where belly dancing is performed, but bellydance costume designs actually varies from region to region nowadays. It is due to the costuming, along with the music and dance steps that makes the belly dance, as well as belly dancers, different from any other dance performances. Here are some different ideas you can consider as part of your Bellydance costume design.

Getting Started

To start with there are three basic things required to form the costuming of this dance and these are the bra, harem pants or skirt, and veil. Apart from these three there are other accessories like belt, and a head band too, which we will discuss later.

Let us start to get to know about the primary concerns of the Bellydance costume design. It is your choice whether you make your own item or purchase it from famous stores. But when you are creating your own costume then you must take care of the fabric, accessories and the quality of the material to be used so that the dress gives you a professional belly dancer look.

Designing A BellyDance Costume

BellyDance Costume Ideas

One of the bellydance costume ideas involves a keyhole neckline U top, decorated bra, belt and full skirt. Along with these some decorations on your hands could be done and some head bands could be used. This kind of normal costuming will give you a traditional belly dancer look and the design which is mentioned has been very popular in Egypt since the 1960's.

Bellydance costume designs can be made professional looking if the fabric is of good quality because the fabric chosen in making the costume plays a major role in achieving the desired aesthetics. For example, if you want a costume with earthy aesthetics then you can go with poplin, cotton prints and china silk fabric that has broad cloth and gauze.

Go For A Creative Design

On the other hand if you are going with sparkly aesthetics then you must use double georgette, glitter dot, tissue Lame and china silk fabric. Crepe backed satin can also be used for this. Earlier the skirts were made with circle panels but in the 1990's, multi tiered skirts became popular. For different tiers there were different colored fabrics used.

Your Bellydance costume design must also take into account accessories like belts, which earlier were meant to cover the elastic on the top edge of the skirt, but now it is used more for fashion. So, carry on with your creative design to make your performance remarkable.

Some of what you say is correct, but your photos are of girls in fancy dress, not proper belly dance costumes as worn by professional belly dancers.
